The much-anticipated India squad for the England Tour starting on June 20 has been announced on Saturday, May 24. Shubman Gill has been announced as Test captain after Rohit Sharma stepped away from the format on May 05. Rishabh Pant has been named as Gill's deputy. The five-match Test series will kick start a new era for India in Test cricket. Also, with the Test retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, India had to find able replacements for the experienced duo.
For Rohit, India has named Sai Sudarshan in the squad. The southpaw, who is having a terrific Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) for Gujarat Titans (GT) also shown consistency in India A tour of Australia last year. The 23-year-old is most likely to bat at number three in playing XI, as most probably India will be going with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul as their designated openers.

Apart from Sudarshan, the 18-member squad also sees another debutante in Arshdeep Singh. The Punjab pacer, who has already established himself in the white-ball formats, now gets a chance to showcase his prowess in the red-ball format. The left-arm pacer was handed the maiden call-up due to his good returns in the Ranji Trophy 2024 season for Punjab.

Golden opportunity awaits Sai Sudarshan and Arshdeep Singh during England series
With India trying to form the core of the Test team, it is a golden opportunity for Sai Sudarshan and Arshdeep to stake a claim in the Test team. Also as young players, the duo wont be having any undue pressure to deliver the goods in every match.
