New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips, who joined the squad in Zimbabwe while still recovering from a groin injury, has now been ruled out of the remainder of the tri-series. Tim Robinson, who traveled with the team as a reserve, will replace him in the squad.
Phillips sustained the injury during the Indian Premier League 2025, causing him to miss the rest of the IPL season. After a quick recovery, he participated in MLC 2025, but his groin injury worsened, leading him to miss several matches for Washington Freedom. Despite this, he scored 186 runs at an average of 62 and a strike rate of 139.84.

Glenn Phillips Ruled Out of Zimbabwe Series as Recovery Takes Longer, Confirms Coach Rob Walter
Phillips then traveled to Zimbabwe while still recovering. A medical test confirmed that his recovery would take longer, and Kiwi head coach Rob Walter was the first to confirm that Phillips had been ruled out.
"It's obviously disappointing to lose someone of Glenn's calibre. Much like Finn, we really feel for Glenn missing out on this series," said Walter.
Rob Walter expressed his disappointment over Phillips’ absence but remained optimistic about the player’s future return to the team. Highlighting Phillips’ determination and professionalism
"We know he was eager to get out on the field for the Blackcaps and unfortunately, he won’t be able to do that for this series. We know he'll work hard to get back on the park, and I look forward to when that happens," he added.
New Zealand Cruises to 8-Wicket Win Over Zimbabwe in 3rd T20I
Meanwhile, New Zealand made light work of Zimbabwe in the 3rd T20I, defeating them by 8 wickets. Matt Henry was the star with the ball, picking up 3 wickets to restrict Zimbabwe to 122 runs. On the chase, CSK duo Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway stitched a key partnership to reach the target in 14 overs, securing their second consecutive win to start the T20I series.
