Mandhana was born on 18 July 1996 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Despite being born in Mumbai, she grew up in Sangli, Maharashtra, where her family moved when she was merely two years old. She is currently 28 years old, about to turn 29 soon.

Smriti’s father, Shrinivas Mandhana, worked as a chemical distributor. Her mother, Smita Mandhana, was a housewife. She also has a brother named Shravan, who currently works as a bank manager. Both her father and her brother played district-level cricket for Sangli and their careers inspired her own and her interest in the sport grew from a very young age.

Mandhana attended the JS Khandekar High School in Sangli. After completing her schooling, she enrolled into Chintamanrao College of Commerce where she pursued the Bachelor of Commerce degree. Her cricketing career forced her to quit college but she re-joined the Sanjay Ghodawat University in Kolhapur in 2023 to complete her degree.

Mandhana was selected for Maharashtra Under-15 at merely 9 years of age. She was selected for Under-19 when she was just 11. However, she came to the spotlight in October 2013 when she scored a whopping 224 off 150 balls in the West Zone Under-19 tournament for Maharashtra against Gujarat in Vadodara. This made her the first Indian woman to score a double century in List A cricket. She was also the top scorer of 2012-13 Senior Women’s T20.

She started her franchise career for Brisbane Heat in Women’s Big Bash League in Australia. She then moved to Hobart Hurricanes and subsequently, Sydney Thunder. She also participated in England’s Kia Super League representing Western Storm. In the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League in her home country, she was the most expensive purchase at Rs 3.4 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore and was named the captain. She led the team to their first ever title in 2024 and scored 300 runs in 10 games. She wears the jersey number 18 for RCB which she chose after her birthday on 18 July.

Smriti made her T20I debut for the national side against Bangladesh in Vadodara on 5 April, 2013. She scored 39 runs in that game.
